The Pevensie Family - Brothers & Sisters (The Chronicles of Narnia)
by BohemianNeko (bohemianneko)

Shameless showing off.

I made a layout using a CSS base code for Flexible Squares. Seeing as I had never worked directly with CSS before other than to change very minute things, I was very proud of myself. The only thing which was not edited with CSS was the nature of the tags. This was only because I couldn't find a bit of CSS code that worked for anything that looked better, and so I suppose the list will do.

You are more than welcome to use this, but please credit me and link back to my journal and/or crossing_stars!

Brothers & Sisters - The Pevensie Family

General Description:
A layout using the Flexible Squares CSS code, or rather a cleaned up version found here. I also worked through it step by step using the tutorial/dictionary/glossary found here.

Fandom Content:
Characters/Actors:Peter Pevensie (William Moseley), Susan Pevensie (Anna Popplewell), Edmund Pevensie (Skandar Keynes), Lucy Pevensie (Georgie Henley)
Source: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (film) [My own caps.]

Fandom comments:
I created this because while I found a nice-looking Narnia layout, I only found one and it wasn't exactly what I had in mind. While this still isn't exactly what I had in mind, this is closer even though it's not as artistically amazing. This was created for my own personal use, but I was rather proud of it, so I wanted to show it off. As I mentioned, use is fine but credit and comments are requested. This was also made to be friendly to those who may be into Peter/Susan or Lucy/Edmund shipping/Narniacest or to those who are more straight-laced about their views on the Pevensies familial relations.

~*~Installation Instructions~*~

If you have a paid account, everything, including the comment page has been coded to match the color scheme. If you do not have a paid account, it is my understanding that some aspects of the coding do not work. I am not an expert on CSS, but if you run into any problems please let me know and I'll try to work through them with you, though Google knows infinitely more than I do.

  1. Go to the Journal Customization Page
  2. Type "Flexible Squares" into the search box. Choose one of the options that is available to you. It doesn't matter which one.
  3. Choose whether you want a sidebar or not and which side you want it on. For my personal use, I chose for the sidebar to be on the right. Other sidebar configurations have not been tested with this layout, but if you want something else, I'm more than willing to try to help you work it out. You'll also want to edit whatever content you have on the sidebar and its ordering.
  4. Also make sure that your tags are in "list" form unless you just want the cloud. I thought the cloud looked off, but to each his/her own.
  5. Go to "Links List" now if you want to have a links list in your sidebar.
  6. Now, at last, go to "Custom CSS".

    • On "Use layout's stylesheet(s)" choose "No"
    • On "Use layout's stylesheet(s) when including custom external stylesheet" choose "No"
    • On "Use external stylesheets" choose "Yes"

  7. I don't think the way you do this matters, but this is an either/or step. Don't do both, as I don't think it will work.

    Option 1
    Copy this link: http://h1.ripway.com/bohemianneko/pevensiefamily-flexiblesquares1.txt
Go to the blank which is labeled "Custom external stylesheet URL" and paste it there.
    You're finished!

    Option 2
(This will be useful if you are familiar enough with CSS to make some alterations to make it better. Also if you want anything changed you can ask me and I can talk you through doing it. In that case, you will want to use this option. If you make ANY changes to my layout, I would like to know about them though, please.)

    Click this link: http://h1.ripway.com/bohemianneko/pevensiefamily-flexiblesquares1.txt
Type Ctrl+A or right-click and choose "Select All"
Then type Ctrl+C or right-click and choose "Copy"
Come back to the Custom CSS screen
Click your cursor once into the box that is labeled "Custom stylesheet"
Type Ctrl+V or right-click and choose "Paste"

If you are making any color-changes or other changes, find the element you want to change in the style-sheet. A handy list of these can be found here. Repeat the above pasting step into a "Notepad" file and use the Find & Replace tool to find the Hexidemical code, URL, or percentage you want and to replace it with what you want replaced. Gimp can be used to find out what certain colors are, or searching for "hexidemical color codes" might help you. It's very difficult for me to explain how to do this short-hand, so try your luck with Google or ask me specific questions for more help.

    I hope you enjoy this!
